Established in 1889, the Pine Ridge Reservation (Pine Ridge) is home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe (OST), which is a sovereign governmental entity with regulatory authority within the reservation land boundaries. OST is committed to promoting the health and well-being of all individuals residing on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The Pine Ridge Reservation covers a vast geographical area in southwestern South Dakota. Pine Ridge is among the largest reservations in the United States, encompassing 3.5 thousand square miles. Pine Ridge consists of nine districts and over 50 distinct communities and neighborhoods. Individuals of both American Indian and non-American Indian ancestry reside within reservation land boundaries and estimates of the total reservation population are to be greater than 30,000.
